Important: This guide is general information, not a Government communication or approval promise. Current law, portal behaviour and the relevant authority control the actual application.

Create one row per operating location

  • State, district, city and local body
  • Premises use and possession document
  • Products, services and regulated activities
  • Employees, contractors and payroll
  • Storage, signage, fire, environment and health factors
  • Registration owner, renewal date and evidence

Separate central, State and local approvals

A business may need central registrations, State tax or labour approvals and municipal permissions at the same time. Record the competent authority and legal trigger for each approval so similarly named services are not confused.

Use discovery portals as a starting point

NSWS provides approval discovery and State approval listings, but businesses should also check the relevant Government portals for additional approvals. The final matrix should be validated against the actual business activity and premises.

Turn the matrix into a calendar

Record filing status, conditions, renewals, displays, returns and event-based amendments. Assign an internal owner and retain acknowledgements, licences and Government receipts under the correct establishment.

Frequently asked questions

Can one list cover every business?

No. Required approvals depend on activity, location, premises, employees and regulated products or services.

Is NSWS the only portal to check?

No. NSWS is a useful discovery point, while relevant central, State and local Government portals must also be checked.
